Saturday 07 October
North Historic District - 10am - 2 Hours
Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it's your home or on holiday. Its about capturing not only the design and accurate representation of a building, but to have the shots be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer's eye. An architectural photographer makes pictures, not takes pictures. In this session, we will be covering how to better understand Architecture photography and we'll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.

Even in the digital world, composition remains the key to creating strong images. Composition is what guides our eye through an image and gives importance to the subject. It creates the story for the viewer and how we as photographers convey that message. This meetup will explore composition using our frame and tools available to us as the photographer.

The course w/Julia was different than I expected; however, it pushed me out of my comfort zone of photography. Julia is a great teacher and was able to get all students into B&W photography settings which really inspired me to stay in monochrome the rest of the day.

I work remotely on a couple of laptops, so sometimes I move around to different locations, and sometimes I bring my camera with me. On this day I was at Lake Mayer and noticed a bird with its wings opened on the pier. I grabbed my camera and got as close as I could then took this photo. I later learned that this is a Cormorant, they migrate to the area every year and eat mainly fish.

I had photographed this gentleman about 20 minutes earlier and we had a nice conversation but the pictures weren't special. Later, as I worked my way back up Broughton, I noticed him sitting in sunlight, being totally ignored by passersby. I felt a bit saddened as I took this shot.

I captured this photo simply by experimenting with some of the new features of my DJI Air 2s Drone. This was just one of those photos that came across during the review/editing process that just captured the true "Chill" vibe of that evening. Capturing photos of downtown Savannah at dusk on the river has become one of my new favorite things to do, and I look forward to sharing more of them.

The Woods Memorial Bridge, now on the National Register of Historic Places was built in 1959 to replace a wooden bridge built in 1927. The bridge is one of only eight moveable bridges still in use in the state of South Carolina. I have loved this bridge all my life, having grown up nearby. I've photographed it numerous times from ground level. This shot was made during the 9am opening of the bridge. I live near the water. As I worked in my garden, this eagle landed near the water's edge. It stayed long enough for me to grab my good old Cannon Rebel and I was able to capture several images with my 200mm lens. The bird seemed to have no fear of me. I moved slowly peacefully towards it and I ended up about 25' away. I did not want to scare it, so I only captured a few images. When I had finished, the bird remained here for quite some time. It was an amazing experience. I did crop the image to

I had seen this bridge but I never found the right light until I took this one. I had just purchased a Nikon Z7 so I was reverting back to my view camera days as the lens/resolution combination on this camera is awesome. I spent about 2 hours trying more flamboyant angles but settled on this more traditional point of view. As it got later, the cables on the bridge got lighter and better defined. Lot's of fun that day 3/01/20.
