Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 29 March
W Gaston St, Savannah, GA 31401 - 10am - 2 Hours
Evelyn Jerden
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Savannah.

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

I'm sorry more people didn't join in but a class with Julia is always worth the price. I like the way she formats the class with 3 or 4 assignments over the 2 hour time frame.

It was a lot of fun! Our instructor, Julia, gave us assignments that were specific enough to follow, but left a lot of freedom to interpret creatively. Plus, the setting, in downtown, historic Savannah, was a beautiful place to take pictures. The people, the atmosphere, and the setting really helped with the pictures that I managed to take. I?d recommend the class to anyone interested in learning about photography.

I very much enjoyed the event. Our instructor, Julia, was very helpful in looking at my photos and giving suggestions on what worked and what I needed to improv upon. I learned a lot from her assignments and enjoyed meeting other people in the class, with similar cameras and interests in photography. I would recommend any similar event of the Savannah Photography Group to anyone interested in learning more about photography and improving their photographic skills.

This is my second class with Julia. I have nothing but praise for her skill teaching student's with very different experience levels. She is smart, kind, and willing to share her photographic expertise. The course covered what light to shoot in and ways to modify that light, posing, and taking candids of the class and of the people enjoying Forsythe Park. I consider it a bargain at $43.00.

Title or Location: Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge
This photograph of a snowy egret was taken at Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge in Townsend, GA. I came across him, along with a couple of his friends, hanging out on the rail of the fishing deck at the park entrance. This was taken later in the day, roughly 7:00pm in October, which gives it the pretty orange glow.I used a Nikon P950 camera.

Stumbled across this quaint little neighborhood park while driving around one day during my stay in Dunedin, FL. San Jose Park isn?t very large in size but it?s big on it?s view and peacefulness. It was such a great, quiet place to end the day and just be with your thoughts and relax while watching the sunset. Canyon Overlook in Zion National Park, an easy 30 min hike to this spot was worth it. View of the canyons and the switchbacks. Sprinkle of snow dust on the peaks makes gives it a bit more drama.
